Overview
Counts words, characters, sentences and paragraphs as you type, estimates reading time, and surfaces the most frequent terms so you can see what the text actually emphasises.
How It Works
Every metric recalculates live. Words, characters, sentences and paragraphs appear together alongside a reading-time estimate that shows "< 1 min" for very short text rather than rounding to zero. A Top Keywords panel ranks the most frequently occurring terms, and Copy Text, Download TXT and Clear handle getting the text back out or starting over.
Step-by-Step Usage Guide
- Paste or type your text into the editor.
- Read the live word, character, sentence and paragraph counts.
- Check Top Keywords to see which terms dominate.
- Copy the text, or download it as a .txt file.
Technical Specifications & Standards
Reading time is derived from word count against an average silent reading rate, so treat it as an ordering signal rather than a measurement: technical prose with code samples reads considerably slower than narrative text of the same length. Counts also differ from other tools in predictable ways. A hyphenated compound may count as one word or two depending on the tokenizer, and character counts including spaces versus excluding them can differ by fifteen percent or more on ordinary prose, which matters when a platform enforces a hard limit.
Targeted Use Cases
- Fitting copy into a hard limit such as a meta description, a post, or a form field.
- Checking an article against a word-count target before submitting it.
- Spotting an overused term from keyword frequency instead of rereading.
- Estimating how long a page will take a reader before publishing.
Notes & Gotchas
- Confirm whether a platform limit counts characters with or without spaces, because the two figures diverge quickly.
- Sentence detection relies on terminal punctuation, so abbreviations and decimal numbers can inflate the sentence count.
- Reading-time estimates assume ordinary prose. Dense reference material or code takes longer than the number suggests.
- A term dominating Top Keywords usually signals repetition rather than good coverage, so vary the phrasing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it update live?
Yes, every statistic recalculates as you type.
How is reading time calculated?
From the word count at an average reading rate, shown as "< 1 min" when the text is very short.
Is my text uploaded or saved?
No. Counting happens in the browser, which is why it is safe for unpublished or confidential drafts.
What counts as a paragraph?
A block of text separated by a blank line, so single line breaks inside a block do not start a new paragraph.
