Image Watermark

Stamp a text watermark on any image with position, opacity, color, and rotation controls. Preview live, export at full resolution.

Overview

Stamp a text watermark on any image with control over position, size, opacity, colour and rotation, previewed live and exported at full resolution. Because the whole job runs on a canvas in your browser, private or client images never leave your device, and the preview you approve is the export you get.

How It Works

Drop an image, then type the watermark text - up to 80 characters, defaulting to a copyright line. Pick one of nine positions on the three-by-three grid, from top-left to bottom-right. Set the font size (12 to 200 pixels), opacity (5 to 100 percent), rotation (minus 90 to plus 90 degrees) and colour with the picker. The preview canvas re-renders on every change; it is scaled to fit the panel, but the export draws on a canvas at the image's full native dimensions. Choose PNG or JPEG output and download the watermarked file.

Step-by-Step Usage Guide

  1. Drop the image to watermark.
  2. Type the watermark text and pick a position on the grid.
  3. Adjust font size, opacity, rotation and colour while watching the preview.
  4. Choose PNG or JPEG and download the full-resolution result.

Technical Specifications & Standards

The watermark is drawn with the canvas text API in a bold Inter system stack, with textBaseline middle and a subtle dark shadow (four-pixel blur) so light text stays readable on light backgrounds. Position arithmetic measures the text's actual rendered width with measureText and insets 16 pixels from the chosen edge, so the stamp sits inside the image rather than clipping at the border. Rotation is applied around the text's own centre point, so spinning a watermark pivots it in place instead of sweeping it across the image. The preview canvas scales the image down to at most 640 pixels wide and scales the font proportionally; the export canvas redraws at native size with the font at your chosen pixel size, so a 36-pixel watermark is genuinely 36 pixels in the downloaded file. Export re-encodes at 0.92 quality, and like every canvas tool on this site it strips EXIF metadata including GPS - usually welcome on published images.

Targeted Use Cases

  • Marking portfolio photos as copyright before sending them to a client.
  • Labelling draft images as DRAFT or SAMPLE for review rounds.
  • Adding a brand name to social media graphics consistently.
  • Protecting proofs sent to customers before purchase.

Notes & Gotchas

  • Around 30 to 50 percent opacity is the usual sweet spot - visible but not destructive.
  • Enable a slight rotation for a classic diagonal stamp that resists easy cropping.
  • Test the export at full size; the preview is scaled and hides small artefacts.
  • Pick white text with the built-in shadow for busy or dark images.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the export the same quality as the preview?

The preview is scaled down to fit the panel. The export redraws at the image's full native resolution with your exact font size, so it is higher fidelity than the preview.

Can I use an image or logo as the watermark?

No. This tool stamps text only, though any character including symbols works. For image-on-image watermarks, a compositing tool is needed.

Does the watermark survive cropping?

A determined crop can remove a corner watermark. Placing the mark centrally with moderate opacity makes removal far more damaging to the image.

Does exporting keep the photo's EXIF data?

No. The canvas re-encode drops EXIF and GPS metadata, which is usually desirable for images you publish.
