Rotate PDF

Rotate every page or only selected pages of a PDF by 90, 180 or 270 degrees and save the result permanently.

Overview

Rotates pages of a PDF permanently by 90, 180 or 270 degrees, either every page or only the ones you pick. Each thumbnail shows the new orientation before you save, and only the rotation flag of each page changes. Everything else in the document stays as it was, and the file is processed in your browser rather than uploaded.

How It Works

Drop a PDF and a thumbnail grid appears. With nothing selected, the 90 left, 90 right and 180 buttons turn every page; click thumbnails first to apply them only to those pages. The small arrows under each thumbnail turn a single page, and its label shows the extra rotation, such as +90. Reset clears every change. The download button shows how many pages will change and saves a copy with -rotated added to the file name.

Step-by-Step Usage Guide

  1. Drop the PDF whose pages are sideways or upside down.
  2. Click the thumbnails of the pages to fix, or leave all unselected to rotate everything.
  3. Use 90 left, 90 right or 180, or the arrows under a single page.
  4. Check the thumbnails, then click Download rotated PDF.

Technical Specifications & Standards

A PDF page carries a /Rotate value that tells viewers how to turn it for display. This tool adds your rotation to that value instead of replacing it, so a page that was already set to 90 degrees and gets another 90 ends up at 180, which matches what you see in the thumbnails. Rotations are normalised to 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees, the only values the PDF format allows. Because only that one entry changes and the document is saved in place with pdf-lib, page content, text, links, bookmarks, form fields and metadata are kept, and nothing is re-rendered or compressed. That is different from rotating in a viewer, which only changes how the page looks until you close it. Encrypted files cannot be modified here; use Unlock PDF first if you know the password. Rotation is applied in whole quarter turns only, so it cannot straighten a page that was scanned at a slight angle.

Targeted Use Cases

  • Fixing scanned pages that came out of the scanner upside down.
  • Turning landscape tables or charts in a portrait report so they read correctly.
  • Correcting a phone photo export where every page is rotated 90 degrees.
  • Rotating one page of a signed form without touching the rest of the file.

Notes & Gotchas

  • Rotate in this tool rather than in a viewer when the change needs to stay after you close the file.
  • Select only the affected pages, since rotating all pages also turns the ones that were already correct.
  • Open the downloaded file once to confirm the orientation in your usual viewer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I rotate PDF pages permanently?

Choose the pages, rotate them here and download the result. The new orientation is written into each page's /Rotate entry, so it stays the same in every viewer and after printing.

Can I rotate just one page of a PDF?

Yes. Click that page's thumbnail before using the toolbar, or use the small rotate arrows directly under it. Other pages keep their current orientation.

Does rotating a PDF reduce quality or remove text?

No. Only the rotation value changes. Text stays selectable, images are untouched, and links, bookmarks and form fields remain in the file.

Why did my page turn further than I expected?

Your rotation is added to the rotation the page already had. The thumbnails reflect that combined angle, so check them before downloading and use Reset to start again.
