Overview
Places several PDF pages on each sheet, known as n-up printing or imposition. Choose 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16 pages per sheet, the sheet size and orientation, page order, outer margins, gaps and optional borders. A diagram shows the numbered layout before you save. Pages are embedded as vector content with pdf-lib, so text stays sharp and selectable, and nothing is uploaded.
How It Works
Drop a PDF and the file card shows how many sheets the result will have. Pick pages per sheet, then a sheet size: A4, US Letter, US Legal, A3 or A5. Automatic orientation chooses landscape for 2, 6 and 8 up and portrait for 4, 9 and 16 up, flipped when the source pages are landscape. Choose across-then-down, down-then-across or right-to-left order and adjust margins and gaps in millimetres. Click Create to download the file.
Step-by-Step Usage Guide
- Drop the PDF you want to print several pages per sheet.
- Choose pages per sheet and the sheet size.
- Adjust orientation, page order, margins and gaps.
- Check the layout diagram, then click Create.
Technical Specifications & Standards
Each source page is embedded as a form XObject, a reusable piece of vector content, and drawn into a cell of the sheet grid. Pages are scaled to fit their cell without distortion and centred, so mixed page sizes still line up. The crop box of each page is what gets embedded, so pages you cropped earlier stay cropped. Pages with a /Rotate value are drawn turned the right way, so a sideways scan appears upright like it does in a viewer. The cell grid is computed from the sheet size, margins and gaps; on a landscape sheet a 2-up layout is two columns side by side, while on a portrait sheet it becomes two rows. A final sheet with fewer pages leaves the remaining cells empty. Because the pages are placed rather than rendered, file size grows only a little, but links, bookmarks and form fields from the original are not carried into the new sheets.
Targeted Use Cases
- Printing lecture slides 6 per page as study handouts.
- Saving paper on draft reviews with two pages side by side.
- Making a contact sheet of 16 pages to check a long document's layout.
- Preparing A5 booklet spreads on A4 sheets.
Notes & Gotchas
- Leave orientation on Automatic unless you have a specific need.
- Add a small gap and borders so page edges stay clear when printed.
- Use 2 or 4 up for text documents; 9 and 16 up suit slides and thumbnails.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I print multiple PDF pages on one sheet?
Drop the PDF, choose how many pages per sheet, pick your paper size and click Create. Print the downloaded file normally at 100 percent scale.
Will the text still be sharp?
Yes. Pages are placed as vector content rather than images, so text stays crisp at any zoom and can still be selected and searched.
Can I put pages in right-to-left order?
Yes. Choose Right to left as the page order for documents in Arabic, Hebrew or manga reading order.
Do links and form fields still work?
No. Only the visible page content is placed on the new sheets, so links, bookmarks and form fields from the original file are not kept.
