VCF Contacts Merger, Deduper & CSV Converter

Open and merge vCard .vcf files, remove duplicate contacts by email, phone or name, and export vCard 3.0 or 4.0, or convert VCF to CSV and CSV to VCF. Reads 2.1 quoted-printable cards. Nothing leaves your browser.

Overview

Opens vCard .vcf contact files from iPhone, Android, Outlook or Google Contacts, merges several files into one list and removes duplicate people. Export the cleaned list as vCard 3.0 or 4.0, or convert contacts to CSV and a CSV back to VCF. Every file is read on your device and none of it is uploaded.

How It Works

Drop one or more .vcf files, or a contacts CSV, and each person appears as a card with their name, job, emails, phone numbers, addresses and photo. Search by name, company, email or phone. Choose which rules count as a duplicate: the same email, the same phone number, or the same full name. Merge duplicates reports how many were combined. Pick a vCard version and a file name, then download a .vcf file, download a CSV, or copy the vCard text.

Step-by-Step Usage Guide

  1. Drop your .vcf files, or a CSV export, onto the tool.
  2. Search the contact cards to check the import looks right.
  3. Tick the duplicate rules you want and press Merge duplicates.
  4. Choose vCard 3.0 or 4.0 and set a file name.
  5. Download the .vcf or CSV file and import it into your phone or mail app.

Technical Specifications & Standards

The reader handles vCard 2.1, 3.0 and 4.0. Folded lines are joined, and 2.1 quoted-printable values, including soft line breaks that end in an equals sign, are decoded as UTF-8 or the declared CHARSET, so names like García survive. Bare 2.1 type tokens such as TEL;CELL and 4.0 TYPE lists with PREF are normalised to the same lower-case types, and tel: or mailto: prefixes are removed. Base64 photos become data URIs and photo URLs are kept. Deduplication is transitive: if card A shares an email with B, and B shares a phone with C, all three become one contact. Phones are compared on their last ten digits, emails without case, and names without accents or punctuation. Merging keeps the first card's name and title and unions emails, phones, addresses and URLs. Exports escape commas and semicolons, write N for 3.0, and fold lines at 75 octets.

Targeted Use Cases

  • Combining contact exports from an old Android phone and an iPhone into one clean file.
  • Removing duplicate people that appeared after syncing several accounts.
  • Converting a CRM or spreadsheet CSV of customers into a .vcf for a phone.
  • Turning a .vcf backup into a CSV to review or edit contacts in a spreadsheet.
  • Upgrading old vCard 2.1 files with garbled accents to clean UTF-8 vCard 3.0.

Notes & Gotchas

  • Keep the original files until you have imported the merged result and checked it.
  • Turn off name matching when different people share a common name.
  • Export vCard 3.0 for older phones and Outlook; use 4.0 only when the target app supports it.
  • In CSV, separate extra emails or phones in one cell with ::: so they import as separate values.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I merge multiple VCF files into one?

Select or drop all the .vcf files at once, or add them one after another; contacts from every file are appended to the list. Press Merge duplicates if people appear twice, then download a single .vcf file.

How are duplicate contacts detected?

By the rules you tick: a matching email ignoring case, a phone number matching on its last ten digits, or the same full name ignoring accents and punctuation. Matches chain, so a contact linked by email to one card and by phone to another merges with both.

What happens to the fields when two contacts merge?

The first contact's name, company, title, birthday and photo are kept when present, and missing ones are filled from the other card. Emails, phone numbers, addresses and URLs from both are combined without repeats, and different notes are joined.

Which CSV columns does VCF to CSV produce?

Name, Given Name, Family Name, Organization, Title, Email 1, Email 2, Phone 1, Phone 2, Address, Birthday, Note and URL. When importing a CSV, common headers such as First Name, Last Name, E-mail Address and Mobile Phone are recognised as well.

Does it fix broken accents in old vCards?

Yes, for vCard 2.1 files that store names as quoted-printable text. Those values are decoded with their declared character set, and the export writes plain UTF-8 that current phones read correctly.
