Overview
Adds a signature, text and dates to a PDF so you can fill in and sign documents without printing them. You can draw a signature with a mouse, pen or finger, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload an image of your signature, then drag it into place on any page. The result is saved as a new PDF. Your signature and document stay on your device.
How It Works
Drop a PDF and the first page appears on the right. Choose Draw, Type or Upload image and an ink colour, then click Place signature to drop it on the current page. Drag an item to move it and drag its corner to resize it; with an item focused, arrow keys nudge it, Shift moves further, plus and minus resize, and Delete removes it. Text field adds names, titles or initials, and a button adds today's date. Download signed PDF saves a copy ending in -signed.
Step-by-Step Usage Guide
- Drop the PDF you need to sign.
- Draw, type or upload your signature and pick an ink colour.
- Go to the right page and click Place signature.
- Drag and resize the signature, then add text or the date where needed.
- Click Download signed PDF.
Technical Specifications & Standards
Drawn signatures are captured on a 720 by 240 pixel canvas and trimmed to the ink, so no empty border is embedded. Typed signatures are drawn with the browser's handwriting or serif fonts into a transparent PNG, and uploaded images are cropped to their non-transparent area. When you save, every item's position is stored as a fraction of the displayed page and converted to PDF coordinates with pdf-lib, which accounts for pages that carry a /Rotate value so items land exactly where you placed them. Signatures are embedded as PNG images; plain Latin text is written as real Helvetica text, while text in other scripts is drawn as an image so it still appears. The result is an electronic signature: a visible mark, not a certificate-based digital signature, so it does not prove identity or detect later changes. Check whether your recipient requires a certified signing service.
Targeted Use Cases
- Signing a rental agreement or offer letter without printing and scanning.
- Adding initials to every page of a contract.
- Filling in a flat form that has no fillable fields with your name and date.
- Approving an invoice or timesheet that must carry a signature.
Notes & Gotchas
- Upload a PNG with a transparent background for the cleanest signature over form lines.
- Zoom into the downloaded file to check alignment on signature lines.
- Use a certificate-based signing service when a contract requires a qualified digital signature.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I sign a PDF without printing it?
Drop the PDF, draw or type your signature, click Place signature, drag it onto the signature line and click Download signed PDF. No printing, scanning or account is needed.
Is this a legally binding signature?
It creates an electronic signature, a visible mark of your intent, which many everyday agreements accept. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, so documents that require one need a dedicated signing service.
Can I sign on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The drawing pad accepts finger and stylus input, and placed items can be dragged with touch as well as a mouse.
Can the signature be removed later?
It is saved as part of the page content, so ordinary viewers cannot move or delete it. A PDF editor could still remove it, because the file is not cryptographically sealed.
