Overview
Draw house plans and 2D CAD drawings in the browser. Walls join at the corners, doors and windows cut into them with swing arcs, and every closed room shows its net floor area. Draft with lines, arcs, hatches and dimensions from a toolbar or an AutoCAD style command line, then export DXF, PDF, SVG or PNG. Nothing is uploaded.
How It Works
Start from the studio, 2BHK or office template, or a blank sheet. Type W and click, or enter coordinates such as 0,0 then @4200<0, to draw walls; type C to close the loop and the room appears with its area. Pick Door or Window and click a wall to insert one, drop furniture from the Symbols panel, and dimension with DIM. Modify with move, copy, rotate, mirror, offset, trim, extend, fillet and arrays. Save a .cruxcad project or export for printing and other CAD software.
Step-by-Step Usage Guide
- Pick a template or a blank drawing, then set units and the drawing scale under Settings.
- Draw walls with W, typing coordinates or clicking with snaps on; type C to close a room.
- Insert doors and windows by clicking on a wall, then add furniture from the Symbols panel.
- Add dimensions, text, leaders and hatches, and name each room in the Rooms panel.
- Export a PDF on A3 or another sheet with a title block, or a DXF for AutoCAD, LibreCAD or QCAD.
Technical Specifications & Standards
All lengths are stored in millimetres, so switching between mm, cm, m and feet-inches never changes the drawing. Imperial values are shown as architectural feet-inches with reduced fractions down to 1/64 inch, and the command line accepts 12'-6 1/2", 300mm or 2.4m whatever the display unit. Walls are centreline segments with a thickness. Where two walls share an end point their faces are mitred, and room detection splits walls at every crossing and T-junction, walks the faces of that planar graph and insets each face by half of each wall's thickness. The area label is the net floor area inside the wall faces, not the gross area to the centreline. Dimensions store their definition points, so moving or stretching a wall with grips updates the value. Object snaps resolve in a fixed order: endpoint, intersection, midpoint, centre, perpendicular, nearest, then grid. Ortho (F8) and polar tracking at a chosen increment constrain the cursor. The DXF writer targets AutoCAD R12 (AC1009), the version almost every CAD program can read. It writes LINE, POLYLINE, CIRCLE, ARC and TEXT on named layers with ACI colours and linetypes, exploding walls, symbols and dimensions into those primitives. The importer reads the same entities plus LWPOLYLINE and simple MTEXT, honours $INSUNITS, and lists anything it skipped, such as SPLINE.
Targeted Use Cases
- Sketching a renovation layout to check that a sofa, bed and wardrobe fit before buying them.
- Working out net carpet or floor tile area room by room for a quote.
- Drawing a rental listing plan of a studio or 2BHK apartment with room labels.
- Laying out desks and a meeting room for a small office fit-out.
- Opening a simple DXF from a colleague in the browser, editing it, and sending it back as DXF.
- Learning AutoCAD command aliases such as L, TR, O and F without installing anything.
Notes & Gotchas
- Draw walls end to end so corners join; a wall that stops short of another leaves the room open and no area appears.
- Keep walls, furniture, dimensions and text on separate layers so you can lock or hide each group while you work.
- Type exact lengths with relative polar input such as @3600<90 instead of eyeballing clicks.
- Check the plot scale before you print; Fit to sheet picks the smallest standard ratio such as 1:50 that fits the paper.
- Save a .cruxcad copy as well as exporting DXF, because DXF R12 stores walls and symbols as plain lines and arcs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my floor plan uploaded anywhere?
No. Drawing, room detection and every export run in your browser tab. The current drawing is autosaved to this browser's IndexedDB so a reload does not lose work, and nothing is sent to a server.
Can I open the DXF in AutoCAD?
Yes. The file is ASCII DXF R12 in millimetres with layers, colours and linetypes, which AutoCAD, BricsCAD, LibreCAD, QCAD and DraftSight all open. Walls, door swings, symbols and dimensions arrive as lines, polylines, arcs and text rather than editable walls.
How is the room area calculated?
The tool finds closed loops of wall centrelines, then moves each edge inward by half of that wall's thickness. The area is the floor inside the wall faces, so a 5 m by 4 m centreline room with 200 mm walls reports 4.8 m by 3.8 m, or 18.24 m².
Does it work in feet and inches?
Yes. Choose feet and inches under Settings and lengths display like 12'-6 1/2" with fractions from 1/2 to 1/64 inch. You can still type metric values with a suffix, such as 900mm, at any prompt.
Which DXF entities can it import?
LINE, LWPOLYLINE, POLYLINE, CIRCLE, ARC, TEXT and plain MTEXT, with their layers and colours. Blocks, splines, hatches and ellipses in a DXF are skipped, and the import message lists how many of each were left out.
Can I print to scale on paper?
Yes. The PDF export places the drawing at a chosen scale such as 1:50 or 1:100 on A4 to A0, Letter, Tabloid or ARCH D, with a border, a title block and a scale bar. Print it at 100 percent, not fit to page, to keep the scale true.
