Overview
Count the days between two dates - calendar days, business days excluding weekends, weekend days, and the span in weeks. Built for deadlines, notice periods and delivery estimates, it works in either direction and always shows the business-day count alongside the calendar figure. The calculation runs instantly in your browser.
How It Works
Set the From and To dates; the page pre-fills today and thirty days out. Four stat cards show calendar days, business days, weekend days and the span in weeks, and a direction line tells you whether the range runs forward or was reversed and measured absolutely - entering the dates backwards is not an error. There is a checkbox to focus on business days only, but note the business-day figure is always computed and displayed regardless of the checkbox state.
Step-by-Step Usage Guide
- Enter the From date.
- Enter the To date - reversed order is handled as an absolute range.
- Read calendar, business and weekend day counts and the weeks figure.
- Subtract any public holidays mentally, or use the dedicated business-days tool for them.
Technical Specifications & Standards
Calendar days are the millisecond difference between the two dates divided by whole days, computed on UTC midnights so daylight-saving transitions cannot introduce an off-by-one. Business days are counted by walking the calendar from the start date up to - but not including - the end date, tallying every day that is not Saturday or Sunday; that means the endpoint itself is excluded from the business-day figure, a convention worth knowing when a deadline must be met on the final day. Weekend days are reported as the calendar total minus the business count rather than counted separately, so the three figures always reconcile. Holidays are not excluded: unlike a dedicated business-days calculator with a holiday field, this page treats only weekends as non-working. If your span contains public holidays, subtract them yourself or use the business-days tool in the daily section, which accepts a holiday count. Weeks are shown to one decimal, so half-weeks are visible rather than hidden by rounding.
Targeted Use Cases
- Checking a contractual notice period expressed in working days.
- Estimating how many working days remain before a release deadline.
- Measuring the span between two invoices or milestones in weeks.
- Planning a trip by seeing how much of a range is weekend.
Notes & Gotchas
- Remember the endpoint day is not counted among business days; add one if the deadline day itself counts.
- Subtract public holidays from the business-day figure manually - the tool does not know calendars.
- Use the direction line to confirm reversed ranges were intended.
- For legal or payroll dates, verify with the business-days calculator that supports a holiday count.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are public holidays excluded?
No. Only Saturdays and Sundays are excluded from the business-day count. Subtract holidays in the range yourself, or use the business-days tool that accepts a holiday number.
Is the end date included in the business-day count?
The walk covers the start date up to but not including the end date. If the final day itself must be worked, add one to the business figure.
What happens if I enter the dates in reverse?
Nothing breaks. The range is measured absolutely and the direction line notes that it was reversed, so the counts stay positive.
Does daylight saving change the day counts?
No. Both totals are computed from UTC-midnight differences, so clock changes inside the range cannot shift a day.
