Overview
A structured résumé builder with nine templates, six fonts, accent colours, a live A4 preview, and an ATS score that grades your draft against concrete checks. Sections can be reordered or disabled, everything autosaves to your browser, and the finished résumé exports as a PDF or as a JSON file you can re-import later.
How It Works
Work through the sections on the left: contact details, summary, experience entries with bullet points, education, skill groups, projects, and certifications. Rearrange sections with the up and down arrows and toggle any you do not need. Pick a template — including a deliberately plain ATS-Safe single-column design — a font, and an accent colour while the preview updates live. Open the ATS panel for a 0–100 score with specific improvement tips, then export via the PDF button or download your data as JSON.
Step-by-Step Usage Guide
- Fill in contact details, then the summary and experience bullets.
- Add education, skills, projects, and certifications, reordering sections as needed.
- Open the ATS panel and work through the listed improvement tips.
- Choose a template and font, then export to PDF or download the JSON backup.
Technical Specifications & Standards
The ATS score is a transparent rubric, not a black box, totalling 100 points: name (10), email (5), phone (5), a summary over 50 characters (10), up to 20 points for action-verb keywords found across your experience bullets (2 points each), at least two bullets on one entry (10), two or more quantified achievements such as percentages or user counts (10), education present (10), skill groups with specific technologies (10), bullets on the first experience entry (5), and a LinkedIn URL (5). Missing items produce matching tips, so you always know what to fix — though keyword-counting is a heuristic, and no score guarantees a specific company's parser will rank you highly. Persistence is localStorage under the key CruxDev-resume-builder-v2, autosaved on every change; the JSON export exists precisely because that storage is per-browser and per-profile, so treat the exported file as your backup. PDF export lazily loads html2pdf.js and renders an A4 page at 2.5x canvas scale with page-break avoidance. Everything is computed and rendered client-side; your résumé data never leaves the browser.
Targeted Use Cases
- Tailoring one résumé to several job descriptions by editing bullets and re-scoring.
- Producing a plain ATS-Safe version for portals that reject formatted layouts.
- Keeping a master résumé in JSON and importing it for role-specific variants.
- Checking whether your achievements are quantified before a referral submits you.
Notes & Gotchas
- Aim for the quantified-metrics tip first — numbers in bullets move the score and the reader.
- Use the ATS-Safe template when applying through portals; decorative layouts parse unpredictably.
- Download the JSON backup regularly; browser-local storage is not a cloud.
- Proof the live A4 preview at 100 percent zoom before exporting, since that is what prints.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the ATS score calculated?
A fixed 100-point rubric: contact fields, a 50-plus-character summary, action-verb keywords in bullets (up to 20 points), bullet presence, quantified achievements, education, skill groups, and a LinkedIn URL. Each miss lists a matching tip, so the score is fully explainable.
Where is my résumé data stored?
In your browser's localStorage under CruxDev-resume-builder-v2, autosaved on every change. Nothing is uploaded. Use the JSON export as a backup and to move your data to another browser or machine.
How do I get a PDF?
Use the PDF export button. It loads the html2pdf library on demand and renders the current template onto A4 pages with half-inch margins and page-break avoidance, then saves the file through your browser.
Does a high ATS score guarantee passing screening?
No. The score measures structural completeness — keywords, quantified achievements, required sections. Real applicant tracking systems and recruiters weight far more, so treat the score as a checklist that prevents avoidable mistakes.
