Work Hours & Pay Calculator

Track daily start/end times and breaks across a week - total hours and weekly pay at your hourly rate.

Overview

A weekly timesheet that turns start times, end times and unpaid breaks into hours, overtime and pay. Fill in each working day once, choose an overtime rule and your currency, and the page totals regular hours, overtime hours, weekly gross and net pay, plus monthly and annual projections. You can copy a formatted summary or export a CSV timesheet, all computed locally.

How It Works

The table lists Monday through Sunday with each day toggled on or off; Monday to Friday start enabled at 09:00-17:30 with a 30-minute break. Set your hourly rate and pick one of the quick currency buttons or the full 26-currency dropdown. Choose an overtime rule: over 40 hours a week, over 8 hours a day, or none. Pick a multiplier of 1.25x, 1.5x or 2x, and optionally enter an estimated tax withholding percentage. Result cards show total, regular and overtime hours plus weekly gross and net pay, with a projection row underneath. Use the schedule presets for standard 40-hour, 4x10 compressed, weekend and part-time patterns, then Copy Summary or Export CSV.

Step-by-Step Usage Guide

  1. Toggle each working day on or off and set start, end and unpaid break minutes.
  2. Enter your hourly rate and pick your currency.
  3. Choose an overtime rule and multiplier that match your contract.
  4. Optionally add a tax estimate, then copy the summary or export the CSV.

Technical Specifications & Standards

Each day's minutes are end minus start minus unpaid break; a negative result wraps by 1,440 minutes, which is what makes overnight shifts work. Under the weekly-40 rule, overtime is everything above 2,400 minutes in the week; under daily-8, each day above 480 minutes contributes overtime separately - the same total hours can pay differently under the two rules, which mirrors how real overtime statutes differ. The tax field applies one flat percentage to gross pay, deliberately not a bracketed calculation, and monthly projections multiply the week by 4.3333 while annual projections multiply by 52. The CSV export writes one row per day plus a summary block, named with today's date, and the clipboard summary mirrors it in plain text. Everything runs in the browser; the rate you type is not stored or transmitted.

Targeted Use Cases

  • Freelancers checking a week's billable hours and pay before invoicing.
  • Hourly employees verifying that overtime above 40 hours was paid at the higher rate.
  • Comparing a 4x10 compressed schedule against five 8-hour days.
  • Budgeting: projecting monthly and annual take-home from a known hourly rate.

Notes & Gotchas

  • Enter unpaid breaks accurately; a 30-minute break a day is 2.5 hours a week.
  • Use daily-8 only if your employment rules pay daily overtime, as in parts of the US.
  • Set tax to 0 if you only want gross figures; the field is a flat estimate either way.
  • Export the CSV weekly - it is a clean record if a pay question ever arises.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is overtime calculated?

Two rules are available: weekly (everything past 40 hours in the week at the multiplier) or daily (everything past 8 hours in a single day). With overtime disabled, all hours pay the flat rate.

Does the tax field compute my real taxes?

No. It applies one flat percentage you choose to the weekly gross. Real withholding uses brackets and allowances, so use it as a rough net estimate only.

Can it handle overnight shifts?

Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the day's duration wraps past midnight, so a 22:00 to 06:00 shift totals eight hours.

What is in the CSV export?

One row per day with status, times, break, hours and daily pay, followed by summary rows for total, regular and overtime hours, rate, weekly gross, tax rate and annual estimate.
